#ExtraExtraTweetallaboutit!

Hey everyone!

In reference to our discussion on the deliverance of breaking news, I decided to expand on the fact that we as a society are doing away with newspapers and have almost fully transitioned to reliance on the internet and social media for our news. Think about it, how often do you turn on the news versus looking on the moments tab on Twitter or looking at breaking news articles/links on Facebook? How about the news app &updates features on our smartphones? Everything we could possibly want or need to know is at our fingertips. Accessibility has crippled traditional news media, take a look at this article. Usually we become familiar with current events because they're almost always "trending" and everyone is tweeting, posting, instagraming and snapping about it. Agree or disagree? I would love to read your thoughts!

  1. Yeah, I definitely think this is interesting! I can totally relate to this. I never read the paper, I sometimes watch the news, and I mainly learn about the world through my phone. I still think it is crazy that even political subjects are using social media. I think it is still important that we check our sources and make sure we aren't digesting false information.

  2. I figured this would be an interesting article cause I just wrote about Millennials in my most recent post, and I wasn't surprised by the findings, since at this point it seems like even with the older generations tv news and newspapers seem to be an outdated source. I will say though I am very interested to see what happens with the news paper industry in the coming years and if anything discussed in the videos we watched will be put into effect.

  3. Even as a non-Millenial, I can relate to this phenomenon. With it being possible to have your news immediately and in an interactive style (video, polls, comment section, etc), newspapers seem pretty boring in comparison. They are also outdated by the time they hit the stands. Online stories are updated as new details emerge. I find watching the news on TV to be too time consuming. Fast, convenient and interactive is just the way of the world now.

  4. Your comment about accessibility crippling traditional news outlets is sport on. It is precisely for that accessibility that social media has been able to dominate the field in relaying news to the public. It is easier to look down at an app on your smartphone for information than to find a newspaper or television to watch. Everything is now at our fingertips and it is going to continue to shape the way we receive and digest political or any type of news.
