The article gives the example and data to support that the NYT has actually influenced what people are talking about on Twitter and what make headlines. As stories are published, they gain more attention online. So there is an interesting dichotomy between both old and new media that is a kinda symbiotic relationship in a way. The old media gets people's attention and new media gets the story circulation faster and more efficiently which benefits both parties. Maybe old media isn't dead after all.

Journalists are now the opinion leaders of our generation. It's good that NYT has such a big influence because that's what traditional media has always done. Media has simply transformed.
