#theoldmediaagenda

In reference to our discussions on agenda setting I found a very interesting that talks about how old media like newspapers and magazines are actually influencing new media channels like Twitter and their agenda setting.  Article t The article gives the example and data to support that the NYT has actually influenced what people are talking about on Twitter and what make headlines. As stories are published, they gain more attention online. So there is an interesting dichotomy between both old and new media that is a kinda symbiotic relationship in a way. The old media gets people's attention and new media gets the story circulation faster and more efficiently which benefits both parties. Maybe old media isn't dead after all.

It's the most expen...I mean wonderful time of the year again! Well if you work retail, (which I have before) then maybe you have a different opinion! Now that black Friday has passed and all of our money is spent, let's talk... I have only shopped on black Friday a few years, I did not shop last week because I was just over the ridiculousness that comes with the lines, crazy people, and also because I would rather shop online. Amazon is the way to go! Have you ever wondered just how much we spend on black Friday as a country? Well I have, and take a look at what I found: According to  CNN  online sales beat out in store sales this year on black Friday. When you think about how easy, accessible and comfortable online shopping is it kinda isn't a surprise. I mean who wouldn't rather stay in bed, warm and cozy and just click drag and shop?! Who wants to deal with all those lines and crazy people? I know I don't! And just what do people absolutely need that they ...

Could bitcoin overtake the dollar? Should you invest? Take a look at this  Bitcoin Article  and let me know what you think!

#MeToo

Hey everyone! I fell a little behind with my blog posts but I am back and have quite a few things to talk about! Recently I noticed #metoo trending on both twitter and facebook. The hashtag raises awareness for women who have been victims of sexual assault or harassment. This follows recent allegations regarding Harvey Weinstein and other big wig Hollywood execs being accused of sexual misconduct against actresses. I couldn't help but think about the power of the # and how it can create movements and really get people talking. We see a lot of ranting and bullying on social media and although the circumstances are flat out disturbing, I think we can all realize the reach and overall power behind the hashtag and how much noise it can create for good reasons. #280characters

*Insert face palm emoji here* Twitter has reportedly testing the idea of increasing the traditional 140 character limit for tweets to 280 characters. This means that people will essentially be able to say twice as much in one tweet. Let's look at the good and bad of this. Scrolling through tweets that included the #280characters it seems like most people aren't too happy with the idea. This made me think, maybe this could be something good and constructive. Now granted, there are a ton of twitter rants out there but the reality is that conversations have been limited because of this character count limit. I think this could increase dialogue about things and maybe...just maybe we could progress from this age of ranting on ranting. Maybe conversations about politics can have a little more depth to them besides the usual "I'm right" "You're wrong" mentalities that seems to common... On a more realistic note, I think this is a horrible idea. I can...

#ANationDivided

I came across an article about a recent panel that Oprah moderated which was aired on CBS. The objective of the panel was to see if the country could still possibly as divided as it was when the 2016 election came to an end.  60 Minutes Article We all remember how high the tension was and how divided people were especially in following a variety of news and media outlets. In my opinion, I feel like our country is still divided but I think it some ways it will always be divided, in a perfect world we would all agree on the same thing and vote for the same candidates. Let's face it though, that it just not realistic. Difference in political affiliation is what separates us from a lot of nations who don't have a choice on who or how their country is ran at all times. I think what separates the 2016 election and now is how heated things were and how passionate people were about voicing their opinions especially using platforms in social media like Twitter and Facebook.

#TakeaKneel

Good evening everyone, Football season is here (RISE UP!) and I want to present a couple of things in an attempt to start an important discussion. Numerous NFL teams have begun protesting by kneeling or locking arms during the national anthem. The president has weighed in on these actions and it has only seemed to make things worse. I can't help but wonder if taking a knee truly demonstrates contesting the president or what our country holds dear, our anthem. Does protesting the national anthem truly contest the president himself? Is there not a more appropriate demonstration? Check out these articles  CNN  &  NYT I think it will be interesting watch and see how president Trump uses the same media that he tends to lash out at to convey his opinions and stances regarding topics like this.
